Oklahoma has had lots of outlaws. One of my friends, who had taken guitar lessons from me, came over one evening and came in and sat down.
"Dale, I am going to be a policeman in Oklahoma City. I've prayed about, and even if I were killed, my mother is in heaven, and she would be waiting for me." Warren Tooman was his name, and his family had deep roots on both sides of my family.

As I looked at, he was some-what shy, and he just didn't look like what I'd expect to be the aura of a policeman. I didn't suggest anything, just listened.
Warren did great in the boot camp and was the best shooter in his class. He even stopped by and showed me his uniform. Looked like an Oklahoma City policeman to me.
One evening, late, while Marcella worked from 7-11 at the hospital, the channel I was listening to, broke in with "breaking news." In Oklahoma City, a fast-food fish joint was being robbed. One officer was shot and killed, "One Warren Tooman," said the reporter.
Did I hear that right? I called the station and asked if that was correct. They said they couldn't release it. Release it? It's already been released. Warren Tooman is a friend of mine. The station gave up the name.
They had an open casket viewing in the big Baptist Church. I had planned on going to his funeral, but I couldn't. My uncle Tip had died and his funeral was on the same day. At the open casket, I noticed he had a bandaid on his middle, left finger. As he held out his gun, the robber jumped out of a door and shot him in the face. His natural reaction to the gun, was to put his left hand it front of where the gun was aimed.
When an officer dies, on the job, like happened yesterday, at the funeral, virtually all officers across the state and representatives from the border states, show up to honor him. I've taken a picture of the rock, in front of the OKC Police Station, but I will do it again and place the tomb Stone on this page.
